Luke Cunningham Clere, Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading specialist litigation and public law firm, has exciting opportunities in our Auckland and Wellington offices for Judge’s clerks looking to take their next steps in the profession. The successful candidates will join our team in February 2025 - though dates are negotiable.  

 Mō te tūnga | About the role

You will be part of an expert team doing criminal prosecution*, regulatory enforcement and public law work on behalf of a wide range of typically public-sector entities. You will work with some of Aotearoa’s best litigators in a firm dedicated to serving the community through the law.

As the Wellington Crown Solicitor’s office we undertake criminal prosecutions for the Crown, Police and other public bodies.  Our practice also includes regulatory enforcement, civil and commercial litigation, public law advice and litigation, investigations advice and professional disciplinary proceedings.  Solicitors have the opportunity to work across a wide range of practice areas and alongside different partners. Few firms in Aotearoa New Zealand can offer lawyers the hands on advocacy experience we do.

This role primarily involves:

  • Regularly appearing in court (including frequent solo appearances);

  • Acting as junior counsel with experienced advocates;

  • Drafting opinions; and

  • Legal and other research.

*Regular criminal prosecution work is only available to Wellington-based staff. Auckland based staff may be involved in some criminal prosecutions but generally not as core members of the warrant team.
